The parachute club was known as the Northern Parachute Club ran by Charles Shea Simmonds. The airfield was taken over by Lee Bamborough and his brother before Nissan bought it. There was a smashed up Dragon Rapide on the field too. The Avro Vulcan was flown in from Scotland and the engines removed which started the Sunderland Air Museum, the brainchild of John Stelling.
