I went on the 28 as the 20 went close to home. The 28 was where I had not been before for most part.
The we’re about 25 to 30 at the central meting point at the Yorkshire Showground which then split into the three groups.
There were only 5 in our group. We went down and through Wetherby and on reaching the Thorp Arch Trading Estate turned North past the old Tockwith Airfield before cutting back across the A1. To Spofforth and back to Showground.
29.5 miles, the last 5 me solo as I sent the others on as I needed a rest and pit stop.
Unfortunately the wind was strong SW at start and on reaching Thorp Arch it went round to more NW, so a strong headwind most of the way. At one point near Tockwith, it blew me nearly a yard out to the centre of the road where there was a gate into a field. Thank goodness no cars about at the time.
Now I know my personal limits both for clothing and ride distance. Regarding ride limits max 25 if flat, 15-20 if not a lot of hills. If hilly maybe under 18, wind direction and strength alters everything.
Tomorrow will tell the tail if I’ve overdone it. At least hopefully I will ll have made a little improvement in my fitness.
If I had stayed home I would have seen the annual run of various distances that all pass our house. There was the possibility of there being up to 900 runners. How many there actually was we’ll find out next week.
A good but hard day for me. I hope to get out again on Wednesday but go a lot on this week.
