Answer to Norman
I am one of 14 people on the committee for the enterprise branch in Hartlepool. We have monthly meetings mainly about the finance of the station. We have a sub branch such as sales of souvenirs. Then we have finance matters such as donations, legacies etc, all of which has to be documented and accounted for. This is why I rant off about the fact the lifeboat is getting used as a maritime taxi. It costs £5000 per shout and it takes us a hell of a lot of time to raise it.None of our crews are paid. They do the hard but of rescue. Look at "Saving lives at sea"and you'll see why I get angry. I understand why people are reluctant to donate and I don't agree with paid positions but without government help we have to rely on donations to keep the RNLI going. I am too old be be a crew member and admit if I wasn't, I still wouldn't have the guts to risk my life.
