Re: Answer to Norman
In 1981 I was doing a ship repair at sea run sailing from Belgium to South Africa. It was Christmas time. We were going through the Channel in a force 9 and a ship was sinking close by all ships stood by waiting to help. The men from the Penlee lifeboat were out saving the crew as it sunk. The full time Seaman next to me said we donít contribute to the charity every other country with a coastline pays these lads to risk there lives. I would not think most sea going men do not contribute to the charity but thought he had a point. A week or so later after we had sailed into nicer weather the Penlee lifeboat went down with all hands. Itís something I will never forget, brave men and a real tragedy.
