A lot must be due to the various “Plates” moving forcing land up to form the Himalayas. I think I read that items found up there were once part of a Sea Bed. Other things have settled and maybe sunk to lower levels.
Earthquakes cause a lot of movement.
The experts can explain a lot but not everything.
Just consider the last 2,000 years, how a lot of Roman remains all over Europe are now buried very deep and not due to volcanic action. Why are some remains in parts of Rome meters down yet other near or at the surface.
Roman remains in UK tend to be near the surface.
All a bit Mind boggling !
