I dropped the letter off Tuesday morning at 11am addressed to the Iona Chairman .Here below is what I wrote .
Norman
Dear John,
Ref- The WW2 Bombing commemoration Plaque on your wall.
I hope you are well,
As you will remember you kindly gave permission for us to install the Plaque on the Iona wall in October.
Recently, Tom Barker a Hebburn ex pat who lives in Scarborough was in Hebburn for his sisters Funeral.
Whilst going to the Iona on the 6th May he noticed the plaque was defaced & something had been poured onto it. So he went into your club & got some wet hand towels and did his best to clean the plaque up.
He put this tale onto my ‘Hebburn and our Neighbours’ Forum to let people know how disgusted he was and to date 265 people have read the story.
I suggested asking you and the Iona committee if it was possible to install CCTV to cover the front of the club and if we get your permission I will ask for donations and get it organised.
I have a contact that will do a professional job of installing a camera.
Could you speak to your fellow committee members and see what they think.
Thanking you,
Yours,
Norman Dunn
