Re: Friday's Header of a 1923 Leslie's Advert
My father came from Scotland as a time served electrician. He would tell me how he was amazed at how little skills shipyard electrician’s had. My father had a well rounded apprenticeship so he ended up a maintenance electrician as he had the skills to do everything and would also climb up the cranes to repair them lots were reluctant to do that. As anyone from Leslie’s would tell you my Dad was an expert on the Monapole burning machine and kept it running for years. Even now very few electrician’s terminate and lots pull cable’s and erect cable tray there were benefits to being in trades other than the black trades. If they were any good there was always someone wanting work done outside of there 9 to 5 job. Not so the lads with big grinders etc who ended up deaf and with crippled hands
