Re: Bonnacord St and The Ferry Landing in its earlier position 1950
Yeah I remember the first man I saw fall in the river his haversack caught on the gate and down he went. I was shocked thinking he would be crushed. But you had to keep your wits about you and go under the water until a lot of men got off and pushed the ferry off the landing he was then pulled out and waited for the ambulance to take him for stomach pump at the hospital. I saw others go in after that including my friend Colin Hewitt. We young lads used to stand at the front and jump off. Great fun for us in the main, no one new what side of the ferry would come into the landing so when we guessed wrong the ferry would tip from one side to the other as everyone switched positions 😂 I remember I always let Alan Stephenson go first he had a great leap, Colin suffered trying to go at the same time. The first 10 to 20 was good enough for me 😂 happy days.
