I think it is very courteous when someone holds a door open for you, I always say thank you it is, after all, good manners, I also say a thank you to car drivers who stop at zebra crossings.

My late mum always addressed everyone as pet, to be honest I think the world has gone crazy when you can’t use terms of endearment it’s not as if you are being nasty.
