Today's Header photo shows the massive Palmer's Blast Furnaces that created our long gone Slag Heap.
Iron ore for steel making went into those furnaces and the molten slag was taken away and dumped on the Jarrow-Hebburn border, creating a massive 'mountain' for us kids to play on in the 1950s.
