Todayís gear from Japan, Taiwan and South Korea are now very good.
In the end it comes down to manufacturing costs. The Victorian type stuff was just too ornate expensive stuff produced by poorly paid workers working in dreadful conditions in most cases.
Britainís industry somewhat crippled by the attitude of its workers more money for less work type of thing and allowing the Union type people to cripple us.
The wise oneís like the Nissan workers have reaped the benefit of modern practices.
Take all the proposed strikes over the next few months, nearly all by people who produce nothing preventing those that do from getting to work etc.
While itís not as clear cut as that you get the gist.
