When I started working here in Harrogate the firm had an early computer fro designing steelwork an Olivetti magnetic card machine.
I knew nowt about computers but knew how to design steelwork, so quickly saw how to use the machine guided by the programes already in use.
I quickly developed my own programs and then ones for the estimators and others. This went on for a few years but I did not have the time to progress myself on computers.
Resulting from that I was able to develop other things to even standard tender letters which speeded up preparing tenders for jobs. Other projects came my way just because it was known that I was adaptable.
I had one main job, an estimator, but 5 or 6 other jobs got mixed in with it at various times.
I suppose I should have pushed updating myself on computing and. Might have been good at it.
However I had started Scuba diving and that took over my spare time. I may have boobed big time by that.
We live and learn.
