I started researching back in 1980 and have photos going as far back at the mid 1800ís. Odds and ends of documents some pre WW1 and newspaper cuttings of 1911 and football newspapers cuttings of Dadí s early football days around 1928.
The photos are a major problem as both Dad and Grandfather Campbell were snap happy chappies, a lot of culling required.
I have decided to start writing up the history of myself, Dad and Grandfather Campbell in the first instance.
Then my Great Grandparents Campbell and their three other children.
Thatís because I have the greatest amount of information about them.
Of course I have my motherís side, my Grandmother Campbell, (a Morris), then my Great Grandmother Campbell, (a Fletcher.) another load of info.
My wife Annís family history is far far interesting than mine. The important thing about Annís family is that maybe I am the only one ( other than Ann)that knows the full story.
This is due to me being able to sort out all the name changes that occurred. In two cases couples got married and then by the time of the next Census they had changed their family name. Fortunately I twigged what had happened. There being a lot of Army postings being involved complicated it a lot.
I looked at Family Tree Maker years ago when It was part of Ancestry but was not happy about the info being open to all and sundry. Family Tree Maker change if I remember correctly to a stand alone company but anyway I preferred Family Historian and used that, however that was years ago and lost in computer glitches.
A distant cousin and I did a lot of work on our Campbell family for about 5-6 years but regretfully he died in2019 and with COVID etc I stopped doing anything family history wise so am trying to get back into it.
At the moment I am trying to get my PCís back up and running and sorting out all the info. Which has got mixed up over the last few years.
I have to relearn all the tricks that I used like dictating into a laptop or i pad and it going straight into my main PC family history hard drive.
As always I try to do too much, cycling, gardening etc. Getting older not good for that.
