Watching the Tour du France there was a clip of the riders on bike trainers w arming up before the start of a stage. I wonder how many miles they put into warm up.
I astound me that they ride for 3-4 hours of maybe 120- 150 odd miles and can achieve speeds of over 40 mph and that seems to be before the final sprint to the finish line. No wonder they are like matchstick men.
I am still able to get the energy rush that comes with riding at high speed. There is one section of road up on the top of the hill near the Base which allows me to get up to 25 mph on the near flat. Max absolute speed I manage downhill is about 32-35 mph about 1 Mile from home. I could go faster but there is a slight LH bend and the road surface is not so good. Also if I drift off to the right I could go over a wall or into an oncoming car.
Now if I was on my MTB I could go faster as far better grip.
Of course I realise that I no longer bounce! Any fall is going to be bad at my age and could well finish my cycling days.
But Iím still a damm fool and push it.
