Joseph this happens a lot in offshore drilling. It's called wildcatting and sometimes they end up with a dry well after drilling 17,000ft costing a mint!However GPR known as ground penetrating radar saves the day before they invest in drilling. I find it hard to digest that they didn't try it. Sometimes they use electrodes to shatter hard status so it would be interesting to find the reason it stopped.
