Gareth Southgate said some time ago that 'The England team stood for a lot more than just the football on the pitch'.
I wonder if, on reflection, Mr. Southgate now believes that the England team should simply stand for football on the pitch. It may be that less virtue signaling = more concentration on playing good quality football.
On a slightly different but related subject, I wonder how we would feel if a bunch of Qataris turned up in the UK demanding we, in the UK conform to their beliefs and customs. We may not agree with their beliefs and customs and in fact, they may well be the Polar opposite of our beliefs, but in their own country, it is up to them to determine their way into their future and arrogant of us to believe we should determine it for them. Is this 'Qatar needs to change' rhetoric not simply a modern-day example of Colonialism apparently so hated by the left-wing chattering classes?
I wonder if the indigenous peoples of America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand would agree.
