I Assume that she must have had a Good education to be a teacher so why did she start To work for the GWR as a temporary clerk in Feb of 1916.
It must have been due to WW1, the railway needed people to replace men gone off to war and she would have been able to read and write plus some maths.
She could have wanted to do her part in the war effort or was she recruited? How were women able to work in factories etc. what was the system to recruit them?
This family research lark often brings up things that you knew nowt about.
