After the news today of a black person being asked where she comes from and the problems it has caused. It made me think. Last Saturday I was in a waiting room at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford waiting for my husband to have his scan. A couple from Milton Keynes were waiting for the lady to have her scan, when she was called her husband and I started chatting. He asked where did I originally come from. No shock horror that I was not
from Oxfordshire, just a genuine question. I told him Newcastle area, but a ship building town called Hebburn. We had a long chat and he told me he had happy memories of Newcastle and a beer called Brown Ale, that was lovely to drink, but it gave him the worst hung over ever. I wonder when if ever people of colour will stop seeing a racist in any remark made. If I saw her I would think she was possibly from Africa. No offence meant, but I would now be very wary.
