Going back to Henry VIII ‘s time it appears that four poster beds were used by some.
The had curtains and canopy so the occupant’s bodies warm the air up. Hot bed pans as well.
Main intention would be stopping drafts.
Up in Scotland there were often beds in cupboards. Never knew how you used one, where the doors closed after you got into bed.
When young the only heating in our house was the coal fire in lounge, the one in the bedroom never used as far as I can remember.
In earlier days what did our grandparents wear. Did men wear those one piece white underwear as you often see in Westerns.
