A figure of 100 private schools was quoted. Some of these schools have 1,000 pupils. That’s a lot of students that would have to be accommodated if they closed.

Most of private schools have scholarships for the not so well off. Many parents just get the money together anyway they can.

The standard of education in these schools is top notch if the students are interested enough to learn. That students have to stick in or their parents will wonder why they are pay out the money.

A return to the old grammar school type system would be good for some but all this staying on until say 18 not for all kids. Did we all leave school at 15 ? Did it do us any harm, I doubt it. I was far better going to college for work probable because of teacher quality, Pop Armstrong and a few others excluded, that maybe down to me not listening though.

The maths lecturer at Newcastle was top notch.
