I remember those being upgraded as the years passed 1945 ish to 1965. That year Ann and I took over the house having bought it of my parents.
We brought everything up to date between about Easter and September which was when we married. One thing that Iím not clear on is what we did with the living room fire.
I think we had installed a better little water heating boiler behind the fire.
I remember Anní s Dad Charlie showning me how to wallpaper.
Then stripping off the wallpaper to reveal the stippling underneath.
We experimented in the lounge with various wallpapers. Three walls each a different paper and then the fireplace wall which had a chimney breast and two alcoves. Breast one paper and the alcoves another. These were changed a few times till we were happy.
Biggest bind was trimming the wallpaper edges with scissors. Then you could get that done. At the wallpaper shop.
The worst job was getting off the Lincrusta off the staircase walls.
Only years later did I think what did mother think about her house being torn apart. Dad was very supportive with anything that we did.
How we managed to do the work I do not know. Ann lived in Byron Ave. and me in Bill Quay. Weekend meet at the house but during the. Week we must have gone straight up from Palmers to the house, did some work then I would take Ann home then back up to Bill Quay.
I wonder if Dad and I rewired the house? We must have as I installed new sockets and thatís the only house that I would have had to do a lot of rewiring.
This has brought back forgotten memories.
But thatís what the board in all about.
