Thanks Norman & James. A true fact about the Baltic is it would have been cheaper to pull it down and rebuild it. However, to convert it into the art centre, a £3.4 million external frame held it together during internal demolition. Also the entire uk was searched to get matching bricks. The whole idea was based on preserving history rather than new build.
