Billy lived in Newcastle and came from a poor family. He died in 1853 and is now buried in St. Hildas churchyard in Hartlepool as his family could not afford to bring him back to Newcastle. I dared mention his name to a member of the Hartlepool history group and was met with "He should be dug up and returned to Newcastle" because they claim Hartlepool paid for his plot etc. A little digging by me found out Sangers Circus paid out for his headstone. Amazing story of a great man.
