Elizabeth , you've described our old shields flat perfectly ., Remarkably it's still there probably built 80 or Ninty years ago , just a guess ,I often wonder what it looks like linside now as it's probably been renovated several times but the square footage would be the same limiting what they could do with it.? Could have spread out over the back yard I guess.
