1810 it was the main street comprising of miners cottages called High Row at the top and Low Row at the bottom.
1880 both renamed as one High Street still the main street in and out of Jarrow.
It was the main street and main bus route in and out of Jarrow right up to the mid 1960s when they opened the flyover in and out of Jarrow.
