For Tom Barker"
Big Alan Durrant grabbed a hold of me when I was a Marine Plumber in Leslies in 1972 and nearly crushed my ribs to cheers from his pals a year later after I had been paid off and joined the stagers and had married his niece and my ribs where OK I pulled him In the platers shed and run rings round him keeping my distance and giving a good few clouts and wore him out and the lookers out who cheered a year later I give them a sore jaw. Years later I gave his father Dickie his last shave and he said forgive me. Just before Alan died at his house in Willington Quay he give me a gentle hug (he could of still crushed me) we both cried. Alls fair in love and war but at the end of the day bear no grudges (grudges are the worst strain on your heart)
