Both my daughters and our drained were blocked when my son lifted the 2 main manhole covers on Thursday for me.
We knew something was up as when the upstairs toilet was flushed it made a bubbling sound from the bath and washbasin.
So Friday I decided to try to clears drains as family away on holiday and the son in law does any heavy stuff.
The blockage caused I think by tree roots getting into drains.
The blockage was only 6 to 9” up from the third manhole down the garden.
Unfortunately the blockage had on the downstream side dried out quite a bit so usual gear to clear not up to job.
Fortunately my new garden hose was long enough to reach this third manhole and so able to soak the blockage and release the gunge using a metal rod.
When it started to run a massive flow.
Washed everything down and waited until our handyman came to replace the covers.
This drain frequently blocks up and we use a 22 mm. Pipe to clear it. Not as yet bought a set of draining rods but might have to sometime.
The plus side was that I worked outside for about 2-3 hours and no ill e ffects.
But a big morale boost for me.
