As far as investigation and exposure by the media goes, there are instances of good journalism in the past which otherwise would not be publicised. It’s a pity that Jimmy Saville got away with his behaviour for years when so many people seemed to know about him. However, there are also many instances of bad journalism such as the Cliff Richard incident. On a TV show I saw Brian Clough ask a journalist what his job was. The journalist said “tell the news”. Clough said “no - your job is to sell papers”. This seems to me the cause of bad journalism.
