Re: Header today
Its a disgrace that Hebburn Community Centre was ever pulled down. It must have lasted just over 30 years. I remember it opening in 1982, and it was a great facility for the people of Hebburn with its sports hall (with seating), gym, bowling green and squash courts among other other well used rooms for various activities. THe money that they used for building the hub would have been better spent maybe improving the Community Centre, swimming pool and library. The Council pulled down two other good facilities in recent years, which were not that old and well used to my knowledge. These were the Father Walsh centre and the Queens Road day centre in Jarrow. It does make you wonder who the decision makers are in the Council that decide on demolishing facilities, and whether they give a damn about the local communities feelings on such matters. They just seem intent on selling all of Hebburn's land off for housing.
