I was a sort of duffer at school. At least Managed to always be in the A class,s. At Clegga.
I was very good at Art, always near top of the class but then there was a change of Art teacher and I ended up at the bottom.
Dad got me a job at Hebburn Palmers I think through his contacts.
I then was at college for the next 7 years and ended up at degree standard.
On year nearly all our math class failed the A1 exam but we were allowed to continue on to do the A2 coursebut had to do all the A1 maths course work again and retake the exam.
They brought in a lecturer from Kings College a mr. Batty I think.
He made a tremendous difference, he was a very gifted chap.
There was our failed lot plus the new lads coming up from the S3 course.
That year everybody passed with very high marks, the best ever.
That year proved that the quality of lecturer was very very important.
My move to work in Harrogate was the making of me both work wise and in sport.
I was like many people a late developer but managed to snap up an opportunity or two when they came available.
