Re: CIU Clubs is Despair
When I was around 25 years old I took my father (who was then 55) to the Greyhound pub for a few beers. It was about 1974. He informed me that he didn’t normally drink in pubs, he only went to CIU clubs. Over the years he was a member of the Alberta, Colliery, Elmfield and Labour clubs that I know of. He would be so sad to see the demise of the majority of clubs in the area which seems to have run in parallel to the loss of many of the labour intensive industries and I think it is a real shame. A major culture loss.
