I though you would have known about the shoe-lace trick.
A tight knot with the lace either side of the hole in the inner-tube.
Tyre back on, inflate and off you go.
You may have to re-inflate a couple of times, but it was better than walking.
Surprisingly, you couldn't feel the gap, the tyre not only expanded width-ways, but also length-ways too.
The only way it wouldn't work, was if the puncture was too near the valve.
