Just got back from airport taking a friend who's flying home for her father's funeral,been up since 4am and wide awake so thought I'd give a catch up.
Lifted the rest of the first early potatoes on Sunday, Charlotte potatoes about 8kg from 8 seed potatoes, decent return for first earlys, nice size and full of taste, red and white onions lifted and drying, lifted some beetroot will be pickling some and keeping some for Sunday lunch, they're beautiful roasted.
Chillies doing well, tomatoes finally ripening but worth the wait, lots of conichon cucumbers most pickled and put away, everything else progressing well.
Been planting for the Autumn and have planted romanesco, cabbage, more leeks a couple of varieties of beetroot, squash, chard and kale a fair bit on the new plot which is slowly taking shape, we'll be planting kohl rabi, carrots, mooli
and some winter cabbage, we'll carrots and potatoes for Christmas in large containers in the next fortnight and place in greenhouse as the cold sets in.
We won't have much of an apple harvest this year as the trees needed drastic pruning they hadn't been touched for years, hopefully next year will make up for it.
Our veg bill is going down each week now buying much less as we are bringing home a variety of produce each week, we will be planting more fruit bushes next year but our gooseberries, jostaberry,blackcurrants, redcurrant and raspberries will be producing properly by then and the strawberry patch will be in full swing, and am looking at tayberries for next year for something different.
