I'm almost sure I'm thinking of the same herd..I moved up to lukes lane around 1968 from hebburn new town into a brand new council house..even at that time the whole ring road around the estate wasn't even complete..but I do remember a small herd of cows being walked from some fields just up what I still call the country road which ran up to Monkton coke works and over to Monkton village..this was a daily occureance..those fields are now a big brand new private housing estate..distant memories..but good ones 👍
