Having enjoyed the recent cycling events from France, I have been reading of a time when Jarrow and Hebburn drew thousands of people to watch similar events. Please see the link for an interesting read.
I was a member of the Barnesbury CC from 1953 until 1970 and took part in various time trial and road races in the north east. At that time, Hebburn had a very special cyclist of their own. Don Taggard.
