Sheila, I recall Meggie O'Roakes store on Birtwhistle Ave in the late 50's early 60's

After the shops closed, around 5 or 6pm, there was "Meggies back-shop" around on the back lane, behind the row of shops.

Stayed open late, to maybe 8 or 9pm?

We went round there to buy crisps (Tudor, of course) and pop. She probably sold other stuff (Perhaps Newcastle Brown Ale?) but not to us kids, of course!
