Never had a sports car but some high performance saloons and the estates ( estates for bikes as and when) saloons when going diving. Bought the best performance car that I could afford.
1800 cc in 85, then 2000 then 2500, 2,200, and finally 3,000cc now a 2,200 SUV for towing. Started towing a caravan in 1984 hence the bigger engines.
The 3 ltr a Vauxhall Vectra estate, what a motor that was and my first diesel. A right rocket once I got used to driving a diesel.
Before 1985 various Vivas and a Ford Escort. All were hotted up by me, just a little bit like a gas flowed head plus exhaust. Brakes always kept on top line.
Could never afford to have a race car but scuba diving took priority.
Drove around the old Nurburgring once but steady as family in car.
A car coming up behind me blew his engine big time.
Probably the best car driven was a Rover 827. Which had a 2.7 ltr Honda engine, that was a fantastic car to drive, that engine could sing! Drove it for about 480 miles from very top of Scotland to home very high average speed.
Same trip the following year in a 1.4 Astra only took one hour longer. Less weight in the Astra helped greatly and a bit less traffic around Edinburgh. There were no sleeping policemen on the A697 back then.
Still remember those trips back from the top of Scotland.
