As an Election will be held on July 4th 2024 we are waivering our 'No Politics Rule aslong as Posts are Respectful and don't include exhortations to vote one way or another.A History Lesson
The 'Burn' that fed the Ellison families new ponds came from Wardley & passed Mill House Farm and on towards Burn Heads Farm hence the name. Part of Wardley was wet land so when the Romans wanted their Roman Rd to get from South Shields to Wrekenton across Wardley they had to chop Trees down and lay huge numbers of them down and then build their road ontop of this. Today you can still see that the road is higher than the land alongside it between White Mere Pool and the east end of Leam Lane estate. Notice I called it by its real name of 'white mere pool' not ;white mare pool'. Mere means a wide but shallow lake.
