Hi Norman, I speculated on that on an earlier post, looked fishy.

However, it wasn't a car crash that killed the co-defendant, he was jogging along a country road, and was hit by a car, and killed.

The driver DID stop, and called the police.

So nothing sinister there, just a tragic accident, but odd timing?
