When I was trying to collate the Hebburn children who were evacuees (and ‘our’ Bob Noble was the first to help me with his own experiences as an evacuee and guidance with information), I discovered that Mr JENKINS was recorded as John (E) JENKINS born 27 Apr 1903 Elementary School Teacher The Post Office Stainton, Barnard Castle. This was the home of a Mr & Mrs Shepherd. Also there was Mrs Muriel (S) Jenkins born 28 Dec 1896 Unpaid Household Duties and Davis Jenkins born 14 July 1929 At School. There was also 4 other people unnamed for various reasons. Bob Noble’s info gave me the names of teachers who went with the Evacuees from Clegwell and Mr Jenkins was one of them. John and Muriel (maiden name Owen) were married at St John’s in the Sep Qtr of 1928. Anne mentioned the OWEN connection and Mrs Jenkins was teacher as well as I remember. Because the birth of their daughter Jennifer is recorded in the June Qtr of 1937, I am assuming she is at Barnard Castle with them and is one of the unnamed people.
