The vast majority of old folk have health problems of some sort.
I had a heart attack 18 months ago and I am on blood thinners which means that I feel the cold a lot more than I used to.
Loads of the elderly are also on blood thinners for various reasons.
This could well mean that they need their room temperature to be a few degrees warmer than they would normally have it. If they cannot afford the fuel they could get hyperthermia and as a result end up in hospital or worse.
OK there are other health problems that lack of heating can cause problems.
We will have to do without a Winter Payment but no problem as can afford not to get it and house insulation not too bad.
One way to protect yourself is layered clothing but what to wear.
I have cycle clothing for winter riding from a chilly day up to deep winter. Not that I would now used the deep winter gear as too dodgy at my age if I fall of cold goes onto chest.
However I have Base Layers which are long sleeved thermal shirts by Endura. I wear two under a heavier shirt or a windproof jacket.
I have Helly Henson thermal jersey and long John’s for bad winter use but not used them for years.
These cycle clothes are light and you could overheat so I ring the changes in the mix that I wear.
Yes these cycle thermals are expensive but they last for years.
The only difficulty is getting them on and off as made for slim Jim’s. Get this type of stuff from an outdoor shop as larger sizes available.
Years ago people wore Long John’s on a regular basis so maybe we have to turn the clock back.
