Basically it appears that they are in a lot of cases a flawed design.
It appears thatThe battery forms the chassis of the car with the body bolted on top of it. I base that on having seen one design some time ago.
Originally all cars were built like that. The trouble is that because of the battery size, weight, integrity of battery.
Putting a battery in a car is one thing but putting a body on a battery/chassis is another.
If we get a lot more e cars on the road there will be more damaged and written of so insurance rate will get possibly unsustainable so who would buy one?
We can only hope that they can reduce the weight and improve the integrity. It appears that the batteries are built like a big slab, maybe they should be bunches of small batteries connected together to form a sort of mat.
Then maybe any damaged batteries could be replaced. However they may weigh too much.
Whatever a long way still to go before they are acceptable to most people. No doubt someone will come up with a better design.
