Re: Newcastle Quayside & 4 bridges
Nice photo Norman. An interesting feature is St. Mary's church in Gateshead. It overlooks the Guildhall in Newcastle, built by Robert Trollop. When he died, Newcastle refused to bury him with his name being Trollop. ( In those days, a trollop was a loose woman.). So they sent him packing to be buried at St. Mary's in Gateshead. However, someone scribbled on his gravestone, " here lies Robert Trollop who made yon stones roll up. When death took his soul up, his body filled this hole up". Strange but true!
