This photo showing Jarrow and the slake dates from 1919. The floating dock on the slake is the Medway Dock (AFD4) built by Swans at Wallsend in 1912. The dock was positioned at Jarrow from 1914 to repair naval vessel during WWI. To the right of the dock is the Floating isolation hospital built by Wood, Skinner at Bill Quay in 1886.
