There were other clubs that ran in it as well as sports activities, such as a Sci-Fi club and youth clubs, things like tea dances for older folk and evening functions. I don't know how well it was getting used towards the end of its days. I still think it was a shocking decision by our awful Council to close this and demolish it, along with all the other more recent buildings that have by the wayside such as the Father Walsh Centre on Hedgeley Road and Queens Road Day Centre in Jarrow. As Joseph mentioned, it was closed probably to sell the land off for more unaffordable houses to most.
