Norman what a great story of another example of a local lad from Hebburn quay in the name of Robert Nicholson l went to the Quay Board school with Big Bob as he was nicknamed he was a big lad.Bob lived in Cuthbert st l always remember him as being very funny, always laughing l think he lived a few doors from John Shearer one of our board regulars.we progressed to Clegwell school and ended up in the same class l remember him being in our annual Gilbert and operas especially the Pirates of Penzance when he was a policeman after school l think he started at Leslie's as an apprentice.who would of thought he would end up being a ships captain.
At the end of of a fantastic career Rob mentioned af the end of his story by saying,l quote had he
been a pirate 3/400 years ago Blackbeard would have been a novice big Bob as he was fondly known missed that chance by being a policemanbeing a pirate in the chorus of our school Opera Pirates of Penzance
