To remind you, Robert was born 1940 and spent his working life at sea, becoming a Captain on 'Deep Sea Salvage Tugs'.
Another job they worked on was towing a Vessel from Africa across the Atlantic to the USA. On the journey they were hit by a Hurricane/Storm and receieved a call from a private yacht just ahead of them. A ladies voice was asking for help with their position. Robert did that & when he radio'd back to the yacht, a mans voice answered. Robert recognised it as a 'Geordie' accent and said that to the man, who answered
YES I'm from Hebburn, a town not far from Newcastle. Robert was amazed so asked his name & where abouts in Hebburn did he live. Robert had since forgotten the name but remembered he said he had 5 or 6 sisters and they lived in Glen St. He was a businesman living in America & they had done this journey on the yacht 'London Lady'previously. Anyway they were given there position & wished good luck.
I had Robert's story on Mike Ellison's old message board donkey's years ago & this is the 2nd and last time on this Forum. Wouldnt it be great to eventually get that Newtown mans name?
