I had a blood clot on my lung in my early 40s and was on wayfarin(same stuff as in rat poison) for 5 years. I was allowed to drink but only a couple of beers a week to start with. There was certain vegetables you had to be careful with too. It was a case of monitoring you for the first few months then they relaxed the limits when they saw you could behave yourself.
