I disagree with your take on the history of Palestine Brian. Originally an Ottoman Empire territory the League of Nations handed the hot potato to Britain in 1922 and in 47'the British Protectorate of Palestine effectively created Israel. And at that point we passed the parcel to the UN.
Palestine as a region has always been troublesome.
The PLO which self declared the state of Palestine in the mid 80's was heavily connected to terrorist.
activities via the PLA.
It is still not recognized as a country by the UK and most of Europe and the USA and Canada. Although a majority of countries at the UN do recognise it (Russia does-hardly without controversy for its activities)
I could go on but really just want to say it is a mess.
None of us enjoy seeing the destruction and deaths particularly of the innocents but it is essential to take a balanced view of where the blame lies.
And so far proving impossible to find a solution
