Pilgrim Street is probably the oldest street in Newcastle after Westgate Road. It has continually seems to gone through change, Blackfriars monastery was situated around the area where the Tyneside Cinema now stands. The Royal Arcade was built in the 1830s,it was heavily populated with inns as it was part of the Pilgrims route and had the Pilgrims Gate. Which led up from the original Tyne Bridge on the quayside, It's character really changed with building of the Tyne Bridge and then the Swan House roundabout. There's a huge amount of development going on in the area at present which whe finished will have thousands working in the area. The next few years will see a lot of changes.
